Leigh Howells and Marcus Lillington

We help our clients maximise their returns on investment in web design and development. We don’t do print, or branding development, or marketing. We’re focused on making websites that really work.

Mature approach

With a mature approach building on experience and honed practice, we get to the heart of audience requirements, priorities, and stakeholder aspirations. We translate these insights into specific plans for a website.

“Having had to work with a number of different external suppliers on this project has really made me appreciate even more how nice it is being able to work with an agency that you can trust to do what they say they’ll do when they say they’ll do it. And who’ll do it well.”

Lee Batchelor, Digital Project Manager, VSO International

Collaborative

Our collaborative design and development processes have been refined over many years. We involve our clients throughout a project, ensuring they are fully invested in the outcomes.

Key characteristics of how we work are as follows.

  • Questioning. We ask intelligent questions. For example, we want to understand a site’s audiences and their requirement as well as our client’s objectives and aspirations.
  • Listening. We listen to what people have to say, both internal and external.
  • Facilitating. We think one of the most important roles we can play as an independent, external organisation is to facilitate discovery processes, creative processes, and analysis processes.
  • Ideas generating. Ideas emerge from all sorts of places, but one key role we play is to inject ideas based on our previous experience, user experience expertise, and technical knowledge.
  • Iterating. What we’re building together evolves iteratively as we proceed through discovery, analysis, planning, designing, prototyping, building, testing, and operation.
  • Learning. Learning goes hand-in-hand with iterating. Learning doesn’t end with the discovery phase. We learn together with a client throughout a project, and beyond.
  • Communicating. To be a high performing team, project team members need to communicate well. Our processes and project infrastructure are designed to promote effective communications.
  • Caring. We care. We’re not in the business of ‘churning out’ websites with the minimum amount of work we can get away with for the maximum profit. We’re large enough to take on substantial projects, but small enough that we can really get to know our clients. We genuinely care about the quality and impact of our work.

Skills in-house

We have all the skills needed for most web projects under one roof. We very rarely subcontract. In particular, our highly capable WordPress and Drupal developers are able to implement customisations that are not possible using off-the-shelf software.

Worldwide experience

We’re a UK-based agency, but with many clients in the US and around the world.

Employee owned

We’re proud to be a 100% employee-owned company.

Based on the UK’s Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) legislation, we have created a trust that owns all of the shares in Headscape for the benefit of its employees.

The EOT model helps to reinforce that commitment and involvement that our staff have in the business.
