Originally designed by Headscape in 2007, the BBSRC website has proved to be a distinctive and effective channel for BBSRC to communicate with its many target audiences. However, by 2012, the BBSRC home page had become overwhelmed by too many claims on its limited real estate.
Headscape’s new design helped BBSRC to bring a sharp focus onto key news stories. The design also improves the quality of BBSRC’s service to its audience of researchers by giving greater prominence to upcoming funding bid deadlines.
Driven by a significant growth in mobile usage of its site, BBSRC also wanted to use the project as an opportunity to pilot a responsive design approach. Implemented to date on the home and research impact pages, the responsive design optimises page layouts for tablets and smartphones.
